On site, at plants, and in the laboratory, JTC’s certified staff uses the latest in testing equipment, performing tests with the most current standards.
Each member of JTC’s field and laboratory staff has qualified for one or more programs, including
- NETTCP – Soils, Concrete, and/or Asphalt
- ACI (American Concrete Institute) – Concrete Field Technician
- ACI – Concrete Lab Technician
- MCIB (Massachusetts Construction Industry Board) – Concrete Field Technician
- Troxler Nuclear Density Gauge
- Precast Concrete Institute
- HAZWOPER (40-hour)
- Structural Steel UT, PT, and MT (visual and torque testing)
- PCI (Pre-cast Concrete Institute) – Levels I and II Inspectors
- Army Corps of Engineers
Field Testing
In the field, JTC can provide
- Compaction and moisture density testing of soils
- Slump tests for concrete, air and temperature testing
- Prepare test cylinders of concrete for break tests in the lab
- Rebar examination
- Masonry: prepare grout and mortar samples
- Observe preparation, procedure and materials used during masonry construction
- Steel inspections (including form, welding)
- Moisture testing for concrete slabs
- In-place strength testing for hardened concrete.
Our job is to provide materials testing as required in specifications. We provide rapid, accurate delivery of testing services and the results – to keep the schedule on track and minimize any delays.
Laboratory testing
JTC’s primary laboratory is located in Dover, NH, meets the requirements of ASTM C1077 and 6329. In addition, the lab has been
- Successfully inspected by the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) – a division of the US Commerce Department
- Successfully inspected by New England Transportation Technician Certification Program (NETTCP) for Soils and Bituminous Concrete
- Accredited by the American Association of State and Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) for Concrete and Concrete Aggregate
- Listed as an approved materials testing lab for the Army Corps of Engineers jobs
The laboratory and field equipment is calibrated against standards registered with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
Testing services include, but are not limited to
- Soil classification
- Atterberg Limits Determination
- Relative density
- Moisture content

CORING SERVICES
There are times it is necessary to inspect existing concrete or asphalt to determine its characteristics. JTC extracts cores of the materials and analyzes their content – for whatever purpose.
The most common request we have is to take cores of existing pavement (subdivision and private roads, parking lots, driveways, general use roadways) and auger down to determine how it was constructed – how deep is the asphalt and what is it made of? Are the subgrade materials acceptable and at acceptable depths? We take samples and then run analyses in our labs.
